Ceramics
Students in this class have completed one year of art and have been given approval by the art teachers, based on their academics and behavior, to take part in this class. This class focuses on knowledge and skill in three-dimensional design with clay. Students will build on previous knowledge about design and creation of works to take 2-D sketches and turn them into 3-D products. Students will increase their knowledge of art production, critical analysis, history and culture, and aesthetics.
Students will learn a variety of building styles in ceramics. The first semester will be mostly about the process of hand building through pinch pots, coils, and slabs. They will focus on design and functionality, but also the aesthetics of their works. The seconds semester, they will learn how to use a pottery wheel to create traditional objects (bowls, vases, cups, and etc..). They will finish the year by combining all of their techniques learned and create a body of work. Their works will be fired throughout the year and they will learn about glazing to finalize their works.
